Associate of Applied Science Degree

Program Overview

Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to perform preventative maintenance, diagnose malfunctions, and prescribe corrective action and repair of heavy construction equipment.  Additional knowledge is gained in service, sales, and fleet management as it relates to the heavy construction equipment industry.

The successful graduate may find employment as a:

  • Heavy Equipment Technician
  • Heavy Equipment Maintenance/Repair
  • Diesel Technician
  • Diesel Maintenance Technician

Program Outcomes

  1. Use approved safety procedures in various work situations. Safety is covered at the beginning of each course.
  2. Correctly use basic hand tools, specialty tools and test equipment. Explanations of tools will be covered at the beginning of each course and throughout the semester, as needed.
  3. Read and interpret equipment manuals and write clear, accurate, concise, and complete service reports. The internet will be used to find equipment manuals for all donated equipment, and a thorough knowledge of equipment parts will be garnered through teardown and rebuild exercises.
  4. Apply and demonstrate the correct procedures for diagnosing and repairing various hydraulic circuits and components, power train components, hydraulic and electric circuitry, and engine systems will be learned through researching the Internet, viewing tutorials, and hands-on training in the lab and via internship experience/training.
  5. Receive ASE and other industry recognized credentials.

FYE1110

First Year Experience is required for all students to take in year 1, fall semester. Students must receive a passing grade.
