This course focuses on advanced techniques in massage theory and practice. Topics include the history of massage therapy, professional communication skills and quality customer service, informed consent, client intake/assessment, scope and standards of practice, legal and ethical issues, professional boundaries, the professional relationship, examining benefits and risks of massage, and exploring the role of the massage therapist in various employment settings.

This course focuses on defining and applying massage therapy ethical principles. Topics include the theoretical basis for ethical decision-making, the Massage Therapy Code of Ethics and professional standards of practice. A review of case studies will be used to help apply the ethical code and laws of practice.

This course will review OSHA Blood-Borne Pathogen standards, regulatory agencies and compliancy guidelines, application of universal precautions, and a review of OSHA standards and applications. Additionally, this course will review safe sanitation procedures and safety precautions.  Students will also be responsible for CPR certification as part of this course.

This course will explore the etiology, signs and symptoms, typical allopathic treatments, complementary and alternative treatments, and implications of common pathological conditions as they relate to massage. Students will learn common terminology and definitions and analyze various massage applications specific to common conditions.

This course introduces the history of massage, self-care, proper body mechanics, basic medical terminology, universal sanitation precautions, draping, communication, and the effects of Swedish massage strokes.

This course will review referred pain, read trigger point charts, practice finding, isolating and treating trigger points using tri-phase ischemic compression and unidirectional stripping. The history and theory behind stone therapy; proper techniques of stone therapy massage, including body mechanics; how to clean and maintain the stones; and how to incorporate stone therapy training into your practice as a professional massage therapist
