“People often joke that I can’t keep a job because of my long list of careers, but I agree with the person who told me recently that the job just can’t keep me.
I worked for 25 years in a social services agency, becoming chief financial officer while earning a bachelor’s degree at Wheeling Jesuit University through years of night school. Always looking for the next challenge, I decided to design children’s clothing and aprons, which led to publishing my own sewing patterns.
As for my most recent career, you might say that I wasn’t drawn to it. In fact, real estate drew me in. While looking for some online classes to take, I discovered that Belmont College offered real estate courses through Hondros College. I enrolled for the upcoming semester. The coursework and state exam were challenging, but the real learning came in the field. After graduating, I interviewed with several brokerages until I found the right fit. The place for me was Sulek and Experts Real Estate, here in St. Clairsville.
So often someone will tell me, ‘I’ve always wanted to be a real estate agent.’ I tell them, ‘I’m a grandmother of four. It’s never too late.’”
