“What drew me to the Medical Assisting program at Belmont College was my passion for healthcare and my desire to make a real difference in people’s lives.”

I wanted a career that was both meaningful and practical and Belmont offered exactly that. The hands-on training, small class sizes, and flexible schedule made it possible for me to pursue my education while balancing life as a firefighter/EMT, mom, and bride-to-be.
I chose Belmont College because of its strong reputation in healthcare education and its commitment to student success. The smaller class sizes meant I could get more one-on-one instruction, which really helped me stay focused and build confidence. I also appreciated how flexible the program was, as it allowed me to manage my responsibilities at home, work, and school without feeling overwhelmed. Most importantly, I felt like the instructors genuinely cared about our futures and wanted to see us succeed not just in the classroom, but in our careers.
Even with a full plate, I stayed committed. Belmont’s supportive environment helped me push through, and my instructors, especially Professor Clantz and Professor Piegan, made a lasting impact. Their encouragement, along with the hands-on experience, helped me develop the clinical and professional skills I needed to succeed.
During my internship at WVU Medicine’s Orthopedic Trauma department, I was able to put those skills into action, and it paid off. That internship led directly to my first job, and today, I’m proud to work as a Medical Assistant at the Orthopedic Bone and Joint Center. I assist with patient care, exams, procedures, and administrative tasks, all of which I felt fully prepared for thanks to my training at Belmont.
Looking ahead, I plan to earn my official medical assistant certification and continue growing within WVU Medicine. Eventually, I hope to return to Belmont to pursue a nursing degree. This journey has not only given me a career I love, but it’s helped me grow as a more resilient, compassionate person.
To anyone considering the Medical Assisting program at Belmont: take advantage of every hands-on opportunity, ask questions, and believe in yourself. This program will challenge you, but if you stay focused and take care of yourself along the way, you’ll come out ready to thrive in the healthcare field. I did and I’m so grateful I chose Belmont College to start my journey.
