“After I graduated from St. Clairsville High School, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. But a visit to Belmont College sparked my interest in civil engineering and made me anxious to start my education. My time at Belmont has given me the strong foundation I’ll need to pursue a career in civil engineering.
One of my favorite things about Belmont is how much my instructors care about sharing their knowledge with students. Another is the small class sizes, which allows for personalized, guided learning where I work alongside my instructors and classmates.
The learning goes beyond the classroom. Over the past two summers, I participated in a mentorship with Ohio-West Virginia Excavating, a local business. It’s been a great opportunity to turn my coursework into hands-on learning. Even more valuable was getting a first-hand glimpse of so many aspects of the civil engineering field—especially land surveying, which is my main interest.
This semester I’ll complete my Civil Engineering Technology degree with certification in Civil Engineering Applications. Then I’ll earn my Associates of Arts degree and certification in Energy and Natural Resources. After graduation, I plan to continue my internship and keep working toward my bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field.
My advice to a high school student who’s unsure of their future plans would be to visit Belmont College and apply for scholarships. I’m very appreciative to have received the Trustees Scholarship and the Choose Ohio First Scholarship. Both of these scholarships have helped me finance my education.”
