“I believe all of the skills we learned at Belmont will help us throughout our nursing careers, but one lesson stands out the most, learning how to be a kind, caring, and hardworking nurse.” – Brooke Busby
Balancing nursing school, work, and everyday life was not always easy, but graduating from Belmont College with honors proved to me that perseverance and hard work truly pay off.
I’m Brooke Busby from St. Clairsville, Ohio, and after graduation, I was hired as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department at WVU Wheeling Hospital. Choosing Belmont College was an easy decision for me because of the convenience, affordability, and the program’s strong success rates.
While attending nursing school at Belmont, I worked part-time while also managing personal life obstacles. At first, balancing school, work, and home life felt overwhelming. Once I established a routine and learned to prioritize school above everything else, it became easier with each semester.
One of the biggest reasons I had such a positive experience at Belmont was the support from the nursing faculty. With smaller class sizes, we were able to build personal connections with our professors, and I am incredibly thankful for how compassionate, intelligent, and caring they were throughout the program. They genuinely wanted every student to succeed.
I believe all of the skills we learned at Belmont will help us throughout our nursing careers, but one lesson stands out the most, learning how to be a kind, caring, and hardworking nurse.
The biggest challenge I faced during nursing school was learning self-discipline. I had to learn how to say no to distractions, stay focused on studying, and always keep my end goal in mind. That mindset became the key to my success.
For future nursing students, my advice is simple: never give up. Nursing school is rigorous, and there will be moments when you feel discouraged, but with perseverance and dedication, you can do it. I also encourage students to take full advantage of faculty office hours and tutoring sessions because the support system at Belmont is truly unmatched.
I would absolutely recommend the nursing program at Belmont College to anyone considering a career in healthcare. The courses, faculty, and resources provided gave me the confidence and preparation I needed to begin my nursing career successfully.
