Belmont College Announces 2026-27 Pandora Neuhart Memorial Scholarship Recipient

St. Clairsville, OH (August 25, 2026) — Belmont College is pleased to announce that Shane Moore of Graysville, Ohio, has been named the recipient of the Pandora Neuhart Memorial Scholarship for the 2026-27 academic year. Moore is pursuing a degree in Heavy Equipment Technology at Belmont College.

The $1,000 scholarship provides financial assistance to Monroe County residents and students of the Switzerland of Ohio School District pursuing higher education at Belmont College. Established through the generosity of Pandora Neuhart’s family and friends, the scholarship honors Neuhart’s lasting legacy of leadership, education, and community service.

For Moore, the scholarship represents more than financial support, it aligns with his goal of building a career that allows him to remain in and give back to the community that has shaped his family for generations.

“Monroe County is not just where I live, it’s where my family story has been built for generations,” Moore wrote in his scholarship application. “It’s more than a place on a map to me; it’s part of who I am.”

Moore described a family deeply rooted in community service. His father, a graduate of the first class of Monroe Central High School, serves as a township trustee and chief of the local volunteer fire department. His brother serves as a training officer for the volunteer fire department, while his grandparents served as members of the volunteer E-Squad and his great-aunt worked as a dispatcher for emergency crews.

“Seeing all of this makes it clear that helping people isn’t just something my family does, it’s part of who we are,” Moore wrote.

That commitment to his community has influenced Moore’s career goals. He hopes to pursue a career as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic, allowing him to work on the vehicles and equipment that help keep Monroe County running, including emergency vehicles, agricultural equipment, and other heavy machinery.

“I want my work to matter here,” Moore said in his application. “This county is my home, and I plan to stay and contribute to it just like the generations before me.”

Moore chose Belmont College because of its strong technical programs and emphasis on hands-on learning. He said his experiences in school, 4-H, and other hands-on activities have helped him develop a strong work ethic and an interest in understanding how things work.

“I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands, solving problems, and learning how things work, so going into a trade career feels like the right path for me,” Moore wrote. “I want an education that will help me build a stable future and give me the skills I need to succeed in a career where hard work matters.”

The Pandora Neuhart Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the life and legacy of Pandora Neuhart, a lifelong advocate for education and community service.

Neuhart was appointed to the Belmont College Board of Trustees in 2008 and served the College for more than 12 years. In recognition of her dedication and service, she was later bestowed the distinguished title of Trustee Emeritus.

A longtime public servant, Neuhart also served Monroe County as County Auditor after first being elected in 1998 and subsequently re-elected to four additional terms. Throughout her career, she was recognized for her leadership, work ethic, and commitment to serving her community.

Neuhart was also a proud Belmont College alumna, earning dual degrees in Accounting and Computer Programming from the College.

“Pandora dedicated herself to making Monroe County a better place to live through her involvement on numerous committees and community efforts,” said Suzanne Pollock, former Belmont College Board of Trustees member. “She was humble, kind, and never sought recognition for her contributions, but she deeply believed in the mission of Belmont College and often shared that the College was ‘a terrific match for the hardworking, honest citizens of her home county.’ Her friends are honored to recognize her legacy through this year’s scholarship and hope others will continue to support this effort for many years to come.”

The Pandora Neuhart Memorial Scholarship will provide one $1,000 scholarship annually, as funds are available, to Monroe County students or students of the Switzerland of Ohio School District enrolled in any degree or certificate program at Belmont College. Preference is given to students demonstrating strong academic performance and a commitment to continuing their education or pursuing a career transition.

The scholarship reflects Neuhart’s lifelong commitment to education, leadership, and community service while helping future generations of Belmont College students achieve their educational and career goals.
