St. Clairsville, OH (June 21, 2024) – Belmont College and Omni Strategic Technologies officials are pleased to announce a new scholarship opportunity for Belmont Information Technology (IT) or Cybersecurity program majors.

The Elizabeth Gates Technology Scholarship will award $500 – $1,000 to an outstanding student(s) pursuing a degree in a technology or cybersecurity-related field at Belmont College. Successful candidates may also receive paid internships at Omni Strategic Technologies during their studies and the possibility of full-time employment will also exist.

“In a world increasingly reliant on technology, the need for skilled and passionate individuals in the fields of technology and cybersecurity has never been greater,” said Chip Calissie, President, Omni Strategic Technologies. “It is equally important to find ways to not only train and develop these individuals, but to also find ways to convince them to remain in the Ohio Valley and build the technology workforce of tomorrow.  The Elizabeth Gates Technology Scholarship recognizes the potential of bright, motivated students who are currently enrolled at Belmont College and are also eager to make a difference in this ever-evolving landscape. By supporting their educational journey, we invest in the future of innovation and security, building a more resilient and connected world.”

The scholarship has been named in honor of Mrs. Elizabeth Gates, a trailblazer as one of the first females to work in technology at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in 1969.  Gates formed her own technology firm, HGO Technologies in 1986. Much of this time, Mrs. Gates has also been very passionate about the success of Belmont College, supporting the College in any way possible. She has served on the College Board of Trustees since 1995 and as Board of Trustees Chairwoman since 2000.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our IT students,” said Dr. Heather Davis, Vice President of Academic Affairs. “This scholarship is a wonderful way of empowering the next generation of individuals as technology and cybersecurity leaders, paving the way for a safer and more secure digital future, while honoring the work and commitment Mrs. Elizabeth Gates has given to technology and the Belmont College community.”

Eligible students can apply at belmontcollege.edu. A reference from a teacher, advisor or guidance counselor is also required, as well as a 350-word essay that discusses their technical abilities in the Information Technology and/or Cybersecurity fields, strengths, and goals.

Calissie continued, “Omni Strategic Technologies wants to invest in student success and is committed to providing the resources and support needed for them to achieve their goals. We believe that every individual has the potential to make a significant contribution to the world.”
