Hands-On Training with Belmont College Prepares Jefferson County JVS Students for Careers in the Flooring Industry
The students wrapped up their training last Friday, putting their newly acquired skills to work by installing new flooring in the JVS media room. The project provided students with an opportunity to apply what they learned in the classroom to a real-world setting while making a lasting improvement to the school.
“I couldn’t be prouder of these students,” said Mr. Ted Gorman, Superintendent, Jefferson County Joint Vocational School. “They took what they learned in training and put it to work right here in our school. They didn’t just learn how to install flooring. They completed a project they can walk into every day and say, ‘We did that.’ That’s the kind of experience we want every student at the JVS to have.”
He continued, “We are fortunate to have partners like Belmont College, Floor Covering Basics, and TradeTap who are willing to invest their time and expertise in our students. These partnerships allow us to offer additional training opportunities and connect our students with careers that are in demand in our community.”
With their training complete, all nine students are ready to enter the workforce. The accelerated program prepares participants for a variety of career opportunities within the flooring industry, including flooring installation, sales, estimating, and warehouse management.
“Beyond developing technical skills, students gained practical experience, increased confidence, and a better understanding of industry standards and expectations,” said Jeremy Morris, Belmont College Workforce and Community Education Director. “Their accomplishments highlight the value of the partnership between Belmont College and Jefferson County JVS in preparing students for meaningful employment in the skilled trades.”
In partnership with Floor Covering Basics, Belmont College’s Floor Covering Training Program provides hands-on instruction from experienced industry professionals. Students learn the techniques, tools, and job-site practices used by today’s flooring contractors.
Designed for individuals entering the workforce, changing careers, or looking to develop practical construction skills, the accelerated training program provides the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to pursue opportunities in the flooring industry.
