“The skills I developed at Belmont also aligned with the qualifications needed for the job, allowing me to put my training into practice right away.” — Kaylee Hagan
My journey into healthcare began in high school, where I developed an interest in anatomy and physiology. During my junior year, I also completed an internship at Stellar’s Nursing Home in Woodsfield, Ohio. These experiences helped spark my passion for healthcare and inspired me to pursue a Medical Assisting Certificate at Belmont College.
I chose Belmont College because of its convenient location and the positive feedback I had heard from others about the college. From the beginning, I felt supported by my instructors and knew I was in an environment where I could learn and grow.
While attending Belmont, I also worked as a manager at a pizza shop. Balancing work and school required planning and dedication. I organized my weekly schedule to find time to study around my work hours, and on my days off, I spent mornings studying until I felt confident with the material. Learning how to manage my time was an important part of my journey and helped me stay focused on my goals.
Overcoming self-doubt was one of the biggest challenges I faced. With encouragement from my instructors, I learned that everyone starts somewhere. I discovered that skills that once seemed intimidating could become comfortable and familiar with repetition and practice. My education at Belmont helped me recognize abilities I never thought I had and gave me the confidence to perform them efficiently.
Today, I am working as a registered medical assistant at Southeast Healthcare in Behavioral Health.
I am especially grateful for the support that helped me take the next step in my career. The skills I developed at Belmont also aligned with the qualifications needed for the job, allowing me to put my training into practice right away.
Becoming a medical assistant has changed my life both personally and professionally. I have gained skills I take pride in, learned how to communicate professionally with my coworkers, and developed greater self-esteem and confidence in myself. Most importantly, this experience has shown me that healthcare is where I belong.
As I look toward the future, I plan to apply to Belmont College’s Associate Degree Nursing program to pursue a degree in Registered Nursing. I am excited to continue building on the foundation I gained through medical assisting and take the next step toward my goals in healthcare. My journey has taught me that confidence grows through practice, support, and a willingness to learn. Belmont College helped me discover what I am capable of, and I look forward to seeing where my healthcare career takes me next.
