A New Path, A Bright Future

“I’m grateful for the opportunities and support I found at Belmont College.” —Troy Cooke

When I first decided I wanted a career in healthcare, I knew I wanted to follow a path where I could make a difference in patients’ lives. My sister is a nurse, and seeing her passion for helping others inspired me to pursue a career in the medical field as well. After exploring my options, I realized Radiologic Technology was the best fit for me.

I’m Troy Cooke from Avella, PA and my path to Belmont College was not exactly what I originally planned. I completed my prerequisite courses through Eastern Gateway and intended to continue the Radiologic Technology program there. However, when the college shut down right before I was able to begin the program, I had to quickly reconsider my options. During my search, I learned that Belmont College would be taking over the clinical sites previously used by Eastern Gateway. Since those hospitals were close to my hometown, I knew the drive to Belmont would be manageable, and it ultimately became the perfect choice for me.

My time in Belmont’s Radiologic Technology program challenged me in many positive ways. Throughout the program, I developed important skills such as adaptability, communication, and time management. In the medical imaging field, every day can bring something new, so learning how to adjust to changing situations while effectively communicating with patients and coworkers has been incredibly valuable. These experiences helped prepare me to confidently begin my career.

After graduation, I will begin working at Canonsburg Hospital as a Radiologic Technologist. I’m excited to continue growing in the field and gaining hands-on experience. In the future, I also plan to continue my education by cross-training into Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

Looking back, I’m grateful for the opportunities and support I found at Belmont College. Even though my journey took an unexpected turn, it ultimately led me exactly where I was meant to be.
