Belmont College Continues College Credit Plus Access, Strengthening Local Communities

(St. Clairsville, Ohio — May 6, 2026) — Belmont College has received official confirmation following a recent site visit from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) approving the three College Credit Plus (CCP) locations: Steubenville High School, Toronto High School, and Edison Local High School.

The HLC reviewer recommended full approval of all three sites, citing Belmont College’s demonstrated ability to sustain high academic quality in alignment with the Commission’s Criteria for Accreditation. The report confirmed that no additional monitoring is necessary.

This milestone reflects more than program growth; it signals a deeper investment in the region’s future. By establishing these high schools as official Belmont College instructional sites, students can now access college coursework without leaving their home communities, reducing barriers related to cost, transportation, and time.

“Offering CCP in the Ohio Valley is about creating real opportunity where students already live and learn,” said Dr. Paul F. Gasparro, Belmont College President. “We have been partnering with these three schools for at least two years, delivering coursework directly to students. Now, because many of these students are earning more than 50 percent of their college credits at the high school, they are formally recognized as Belmont College locations in accordance with HLC requirements.”

He continued, “When we bring college-level coursework into our local high schools, we’re not only helping students earn credits, but we’re also building confidence, strengthening career pathways, and investing in the long-term vitality of our communities. This is what it means to be a hometown college.”

Through Ohio’s CCP program, students in grades 7–12 can take college courses at no cost while earning both high school and college credit. The program is designed to promote rigorous academic experiences and expand opportunities for college-ready students, according to the Ohio Department of Education.

At Belmont College, CCP courses are offered during summer, fall, and spring terms, with flexible scheduling that allows students to remain engaged in high school activities while pursuing college coursework.

Belmont has existing CCP partnerships with more than 25 area high schools. These collaborations not only accelerate students’ academic journeys but also support local workforce development by helping young people gain skills, credentials, and direction earlier. By increasing access to college education at the high school level, Belmont College continues to play a vital role in preparing the next generation of professionals, supporting families through cost savings and strengthening the economic and social fabric of the region.
