“Enrolling in Belmont College’s CDL program was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It gave me the skills, the knowledge, and the confidence to succeed in a completely new career.”
A couple of years ago, I decided it was time for a career change. I was looking for something stable, with good pay and long-term opportunities, and the trucking industry stood out. But to get started, I knew I needed my Class A CDL.
That’s when I found Belmont College’s CDL program, a comprehensive 5-week training course that turned out to be exactly what I needed.
From day one, the instructors at Belmont were knowledgeable, supportive, and focused on making sure every student learned how to safely and confidently operate an eighteen-wheeler. By the time I completed the course, I felt completely prepared to take my test and I passed.
What really impressed me about Belmont was not just the quality of the training, but the support they offer to make it affordable. They have scholarships available and work with Ohio Means Jobs to help students with funding. Even if you end up paying the full cost, it’s still a much better option than going through a company-sponsored training program. Most of those programs require you to commit to the company for one or two years, and they deduct training costs from your paycheck. With Belmont, you finish the course on your own terms, and you’re free to choose your own path.
After earning my CDL, I was hired by Swift Transportation. Like most big carriers, they pair new drivers with a mentor. I was with mine for two weeks and at the end of that time, he told me I was the easiest student he’d ever trained. He said I drove well, backed into docks smoothly, and handled the truck like someone with much more experience. That confidence all came from the training I received at Belmont.
Now, I’ve been driving for two years and have put in nearly 300,000 miles on the road. I’ve even had the opportunity to mentor a few students myself. It’s a great feeling to help others the way my instructors helped me.
I especially want to give credit to Scott and Greg at Belmont. The time I spent training with them learning how to back, maneuver, and handle real-world driving scenarios, absolutely prepared me for a career on the road. But it wasn’t just the driving skills they taught. They made sure we understood how to manage our time and hours of service, which is critical in this industry.
Looking back, enrolling in Belmont’s CDL program was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It gave me the skills, the knowledge, and the confidence to succeed in a completely new career. If you’re thinking about getting your Class A CDL and starting a new chapter, I highly recommend Belmont College. In just five weeks, you could be on your way to a whole new life just like I was.
